Professor Daniel Fredrickson Awarded ACS ExxonMobil Solid State Chemistry Faculty Fellowship

Professor Daniel Fredrickson Wins ACS ExxonMobil Award
Prof. Fredrickson

The American Chemical Society (ACS) Division of Inorganic Chemistry has selected Professor Daniel Fredrickson as the winner of the ExxonMobil Solid State Chemistry Faculty Fellowship, sponsored by the ExxonMobil Foundation. The fellowship provides $10,000 of unrestricted funding to young scientists who have made “substantial contributions to the discipline of solid-state chemistry and have the potential to emerge as leaders in the field.”

Fredrickson has established a research program to understand the structural complexity of alloys, which are mixtures of metals and other elements. With the ability to control the structural diversity of metallic compounds, he plans to design and synthesize new metallic materials with properties ideal for energy technologies. Toward this goal, the Fredrickson group combines quantum mechanical calculations with solid-state synthesis and crystallographic methods to reveal the chemical explanations for different alloy structures.

Fredrickson is recognized for important contributions to the field of solid-state chemistry. He will formally receive the fellowship at the 248th ACS National Meeting in San Francisco, where a symposium will be held in his honor.
