POSITIONS AVAILABLE

GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT POSITIONS:

Prof. Shen is on the graduate faculty of the following Ph.D. programs, Pharmaceutical Science in the School of Pharmacy, Organic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry, the Microbiology Doctoral Training Program (MDTP) in the Department of Bacteriology, is a trainer of the NIH Biotechnology Training Grant and the NIH Chemistry and Biology Interface Training grant, and takes students from all these programs.  Graduate students with background in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, or related fields are all encouraged to apply.  The Shen laboratories are in the state-of-the-art research tower of the Rennebohm Hall, home of the School of Pharmacy, and provide an outstanding opportunity for research at the interface of chemistry, biology and drug discovery.  Members of Shen group gain broad training spanning natural product chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, and drug discovery and development.  Such multifaceted training is becoming increasingly essential for the modern bioorganic chemists, biochemists, or molecular biologists who seek career opportunities in both academy and pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITIONS:

Researches in the Shen laboratories are currently supported by multiple NIH grants and industrial sponsorships.  The Shen laboratories welcome inquiry for postdoctoral research associate positions.  Candidates with prior experience in natural product isolation, structural elucidation, and biosynthesis, biochemistry and mechanistic enzymology, and microbiology, molecular biology, and genetics (in particular with emphasis on secondary metabolism in Streptomyces) are all encouraged to apply.  These positions are typically for 2 years and renewable up to 5 years upon mutual agreement.
