Mike is from Bayamón, Puerto Rico and received a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras, in 2002.  Currently, Mike has a love/hate relationship with the molecule ethylene.  His projects include developing a silver-based ethylene detector and synthesizing several biomimetic molecules of the ethylene plant receptor ETR1.  Outside of the Chemistry building, Mike is a part of the GERS (Graduate Engineering Research Scholars) community.  He is also an avid photographer and biker.  In 2007 Mike participated in the ACT 5 AIDS ride, biking 300 miles over four days to help raise almost $300,000 for the AIDS Network of south central Wisconsin.  Way to go, Mike!
