Mike is from Bayamón, Puerto
Rico and received a B.S. in Chemistry from the
University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras,
in 2002. Currently, Mike has a love/hate relationship with the molecule ethylene. His projects include developing a silver-based ethylene detector and
synthesizing several biomimetic molecules of the ethylene plant receptor ETR1. Outside of the Chemistry building, Mike is a part of the
GERS
(Graduate Engineering Research Scholars) community. He is also an avid
photographer and biker. In 2007 Mike participated in the
ACT 5 AIDS
ride, biking 300 miles over four days to help raise almost $300,000 for the AIDS
Network of south central Wisconsin. Way to go, Mike!
