Diane is from Carnegie, Pennsylvania and earned a B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in Political Science from Allegheny College in 2000.  Following graduation, she joined the AmeriCorps VISTA program and worked as the Technology Coordinator for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Spartanburg in South Carolina.  Diane's research involves developing a luminescent ethylene-sensor.  Her Ph.D. research will also contain an educational component, as she has designed and implemented a vertically integrated outreach program focusing on mentoring relationships.  This project also included assessing informal science education.  In addition to her graduate studies, Diane is continuing her commitment to service through her position as Outreach Coordinator for the Institute for Chemical Education.  In 2005 Diane and Jim Maynard, lecture demonstrator extraordinaire, won the ChemLuminary Award from the ACS for developing the "Most Original Hands-on Activity or Chemical Demonstration."  Congratulations!
