Diane is from Carnegie,
Pennsylvania and earned a B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in Political Science
from
Allegheny College
in 2000. Following graduation, she joined the
AmeriCorps VISTA program
and worked as the Technology Coordinator for the
Boys & Girls Clubs
of Metro Spartanburg in South Carolina. Diane's
research involves developing a luminescent
ethylene-sensor. Her Ph.D. research will also contain an educational
component, as she has designed and implemented a vertically integrated
outreach program focusing on mentoring relationships. This project also
included assessing informal science education. In addition to her graduate studies,
Diane is continuing her commitment to service through her position as Outreach
Coordinator for the
Institute for Chemical Education.
In 2005 Diane and Jim Maynard, lecture demonstrator extraordinaire, won the ChemLuminary Award from the ACS for developing the "Most Original Hands-on
Activity or Chemical Demonstration." Congratulations! |
