Analytical Requirements

Ph.D. Requirements: Analytical Chemistry

First Year

• Advisory exams
• Take required Analytical major courses
  • Chem. 621 and any two of the following courses: Chem. 622, 623, 624, 625, 628, 630 ("Special Topics") and 653
• Begin accumulating minor credits
• Enroll in and attend Analytical Seminars (Chemistry 920)
• Join a research group by November 15 and begin Research (Chemistry 993)

Second Year

• Enroll in and attend Analytical Seminars (Chemistry 920)
• File Minor Agreement Form (Obtain from Chemistry Graduate Office and submit halfway through coursework.)
• Thesis background presentation (written and oral)
• Continue research

Third Year

• Enroll in and attend Analytical Seminars (Chemistry 920)
• Finish required coursework (major and minor credits)
• Continue research
• Original research proposal
• File Request for Preliminary Warrant to request dissertator status. (Obtain from Graduate Office and submit one month prior to defense.)

Fourth (and Subsequent) Year(s)

• Enroll in and attend Analytical Seminars (Chemistry 920)
• Continue research
• Write and defend Ph.D. thesis
• File Ph.D. Final Oral Committee Approval Form (Obtain from Graduate Office and submit one month prior to oral exam.)
