Funding

We guarantee all students who are admitted to our graduate program either a Teaching Assistantship or a Research Assistantship for their first year (12 months) in the department. The level of support for TA and RA appointments for Fall 2012 was at least $23,800. Tuition remission is also included for TAs and RAs. As part of TA and RA appointments, graduate students have the option to receive excellent benefits through the university's state group health insurance plan (this is the same health insurance available to faculty and staff); for 2012-13, the typical state group health insurance rates for graduate assistants were $42.50/month for an individual or $105.50/month for a family. Graduate students must pay University Fees, which amounted to about $1,216 for the 2011-12 academic year.

Various awards are available, including University Fellowships, Advanced Opportunity Fellowships (AOF), Biotechnology Traineeships, Biology Interface Traineeships, and McElvain Awards.

For automatic fellowship consideration, submit your complete application to the Graduate School by Jan. 1.
