Professors’ Spinoff Battery Company Gains Traction

Silatronix, a spinoff company co-founded by Professor Robert Hamers and Professor Emeritus Robert West, is gaining traction as it works to build safer lithium ion batteries. Their special electrolyte blend includes silicon, which leads to fewer reactions within the battery and, therefore, a safer product. Based out of Madison, the company now employs 16 people and has brought in $9 million in grants and investments to date. To learn more about the company and the chance hallway meeting that began it all, read “New investments have a Madison battery company all charged up” in the Wisconsin State Journal.
