The Chemistry Department, in conjunction with the annual "Partners in Giving" campaign, will be holding a silent auction on Friday, November 12th. The event will be held in the Harrison Parlor of Lathrop Hall on the UW campus. Prior to the actual auction, donations will be collected from faculty, staff, and students within the Chemistry Department. These items (or gift certificates) will be available for viewing at a to-be-determined location in the Chemistry building . . . probably the display case outside the mail room. The items will also be listed on a web site for viewing. http://partnersingiving.chem.wisc.edu.
In addition to donations from department members, silent auction committee members will also be soliciting donations of food or gift certificates from local vendors. It is hoped that with wholehearted participation from both the department and the Madison business community, the campaign will be significantly higher than in past years.
Overall, last year’s campaign raised approximately $2.9 million. Of this amount, state-agency and university employees each pledged totals of more than $1.3 million while UW Hospital & Clinics employees pledged more than $235,000. More than 8,800 state-agency, university, and UWHC employees contributed. Since its inception in 1973 as the State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC), Partners in Giving has raised more than $56.3 million in Dane County for hundreds of charities.
