Abstract

An x-ray single-crystal structural study of TlOMe has yielded the Tl arrangement along with a proposed overall configuration of the mol. TlOMe is orthorhombic with a 13.80, b 6.98, and c 13.66 A. The probable space group is Pca21; Z = 16. Two-dimensional Patterson and Fourier projections and least-squares analyses gave the at. positions of the heavy Tl atoms; the x-ray data were not sufficient to allow detection of the MeO positions. Cryst. TlOMe consists of tetrameric mols. in which the Tl atoms are at the corners of a regular tetrahedron. In this structure the av. Tl-Tl distance is 3.84 A. A structure is proposed for (TlOMe)4 in which Tl and MeO groups each occupy the corners of two interpenetrating concentric tetrahedra of different size resulting in a distorted cube such that the Tl-O-Tl angle is >90° and the O-Tl-O angle is
