Former Machinist John Vanwick Dies at 76

John VanwickJohn William Vanwick Jr. died Thursday, May 10, 2012 in Madison. He was born on March 29, 1936 in Mauston. He graduated from the Catholic Madonna High School in Mauston and attended college in La Crosse before transferring to UW-Madison. He was in the National Guard and had a proud military career in the Marines from 1956 to 1962. After graduating from college, John worked at the Department of Chemistry as a machinist for more than 20 years.  He also volunteered at the Veterans' Administration.

He traveled all over Wisconsin on his motorcycle. He was in many dirt bike and ski races.
He is survived by his sister, Jeanette Nolden; nieces, Deborah (Steve) Trummer, Cheryl (Greg) Stauffacher and Charlene Nolden (Robert Waack); many other relatives; and many friends from Mauston and Madison.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, James Nolden. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 5001 North Sherman Ave.
