After 30 years as a science Librarian, Emily Wixson is retiring. Emily received her MLS from UW-Madison SLIS in the time before online catalogs and databases. Other than short stints in a state agency library and a biotechnology company library, Emily has been on the UW-Madison campus at Steenbock Library, the Biotechnology Center, and the Chemistry Library for most of her career. Her love of chemistry information started with teaching students to use the printed version of "Chemical Abstracts". After taking some time off for family, Emily was hired by the General Library System in 1997 to develop online and classroom training materials for Beilstein/Gmelin Crossfire. Emily's enthusiasm for sharing her knowledge of chemical information led to the development of a tremendously successful program of library information instruction in support of the chemistry curriculum.
Please join the Department on Friday, Dec. 2, 3-5pm for a reception in Emily's honor. Details will be forthcoming.
