PPD is hosting an open house/career fair at their Middleton location. They are asking attendees to bring multiple copies of their resumes to present to PPD team members. The event will be broken down by area of specialization and there will also be separate areas for May graduates (assistant sci) and students with PhD’s and industry experience. This will not be an interviewing event; rather they will be having conversations with attendees based on their resume and areas of interest as well as answering questions about PPD Middleton and our areas of concentration.

The SC Johnson UW-Madison recruiting team will be on campus on April 9th for the STEM Career fair. We will come to the Chemistry building the evening prior (April 8th) to give students an overview of our internship program and the skills we require. While we are not recruiting for any summer positions at this time, we think this information session would be valuable to the Chemistry students to prepare for the fall recruiting.

Rameau the Theorist

Rameau’s contributions as a music theorist of music still influence modern discussions of tonality, harmony, and harmonic progressions. Chemist Rodney Schreiner will demonstrate the principles of string vibration and sound propagation that influenced Rameau, and music theorist Lee Blasius will explain how Rameau used these principles to construct a comprehensive view of music. John Chappell Stowe will discuss how Rameau’s observations led him to investigate new tuning systems, including the now commonly used equal temperament.
