Jeremy Hans, Frank Hughes, Crystal Dusich, Nicole Bykkonen, David Ebner, Laurie Parker and J. Thomas Ippoliti

Dedicated to Professor  Stephen F. Nelsen on the occasion of his 65th birthday

Several classes of photochromic molecules will be discussed.  Compounds 1, 2 and 3 are representative examples.

The synthetic routes to these novel compounds and their properties will be presented.  The relationship of structure to the fade times and color of the photochromes will be illustrated through numerous examples.
