Science Scholars Program (SSP)
SSP works with students who want to major in the sciences and are interested in
developing a deeper knowledge of chemistry with the help of a structured program and peer support.
By working closely with peers and program staff, SSP aims to strengthen the academic skills, grades, and science comprehension of UW students, thereby enabling more students to qualify for and complete a major in the sciences.
Since 2004, SSP has been working with aspiring science majors who are interested in developing a deeper knowledge of chemistry with the help of a structured program and peer support. By working closely with peers and program staff, SSP aims to strengthen the academic skills, grades, and science comprehension of UW students, thereby enabling more students to qualify for and complete a major in the sciences.
SSP students work in small study groups (4-6 students) for four hours weekly. Study groups are led by SSP fellows. As former students of General Chemistry, SSP fellows know the material well and are prepared to handle questions as well as challenge students' understanding of the course material. During weekly sessions, students spend time on homework, prepare for quizzes and exams, and discuss labs and lectures.
